The Straight Scoop
The Airplane movies are part of a larger body of work by the trio of Abrahams, Zucker and Zucker that Includes movies like the Naked Gun series, the Police Squad TV series, and Kentucky Fried Movie. All the movies share the same premise; they are spoofs of earlier TV and movie genres that would have been well known to their audiences at the time. The Airplane movies spoof the disaster flicks that were popular in the 70's like Airport, Earthquake, and even the Poseidon Adventure. Even though those movies have largely faded from view now, the Airplane movies are still going strong with their combination of silly/ raunchy humor, absurd situations, and a sprinkling of T&A - often with actors and actresses not usually known for doing comedy. Abrahams, Zucker, and Zucker join other greats of Hollywood with multiple comedy classics. Examples include Mel Brooks (Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, The Producers), Christopher Guest/Michael McKean/Eugene Levy (Best in Show, Mighty Wind, Spinal Tap) and Mike Myers (Austin Powers). They all rely on the same basic comedic premise of spoofing and satirizing earlier movies, TV shows and documentaries. Cheesy yet Entertaining
It is one of those cheesy somewhat horror comedy movies that is so stupid that it makes you die laughing. I actually first saw this movie in my film and entre class during Junior year of high school.
