The SanDisk Extreme 240 GB internal solid-state drive presents a host of advantages for computer users. As with other SSDs, the SanDisk Extreme does not have moving parts, which means that it holds up well against mechanical shocks and bumps. It’s also faster than you might imagine. With significant boot up, shutdown, and data processing steps, SanDisk Extreme has maximum sequential read speeds of 550 MB per second, sequential write speeds of 520 MB per second, 4KB random read or up to 39,000 IOPS and 4KB random write of 83,000 IOPS. Its 2.5-inch form factor makes it ideal for laptop and netbook computers, although it also works well with desktop systems with 2.5-inch storage drive bays. It's also compatible with 2.5-inch external adapters. The SanDisk Extreme SSD connects via a SATA 3 interface and is rated at 2 million hours of operation before failure.Since this disk is an SSD, it has no mechanical parts to slow it down. Flash memory in SSD volumes processes read and write requests quickly because it works the same way RAM does. That's why this SSD has such real-world performance numbers and can match the read-write benchmarks reported by your operating system. This portable disk can work consistently under stress and still refuse to slow down. It isn't slowed down by humidity either. SanDisk laid out a number of NAND microchips across a circuit board when it made the SSD. This efficient layout prevents any sort of head crash error. It fully supports the TRIM command issued by Windows and OS X Yosemite, which can help I/O numbers on flash chips.The drive is completely neutral when it comes to file structures. It can support NTFS, FAT32, ext3, ext4, HFS+, and several other file systems with the right drivers. That also makes it compatible with password check software if you want to encrypt a file system. Any OS that offers the new F2FS drivers from Samsung can work with this disk as well.A simple USB caddy can turn this into a 240 GB external disk. This support allows you to use it even if you are worried about CPU capacity limitations. If you have a dual external model, then you could use a pair in parallel to provide 480 GB of storage space. It can interface with the new USB 3.0 standard for extra transfer speed.Users of more than one OS on a single machine can partition this disk into multiple logical volumes. Good SSD for the money
I got this used. Recently got this Sandisk Extreme SSD and a Kingston SSD. Which was both cheap (55$) compared to a newer models (70$).. About 25% cheaper But the read/write on both was around 350/350MB read/write. Compared to 500/500MB read/write 30% slower (-1star) Still a lot faster than HDD's that are 75-150MB read/write! Nice little SSD
Bought to replace my Hitachi 500GB 5400 rpm HDD in my 7 year old Gateway. I knew I would have less space but I move most large files, pictures and videos to my 4TB MyCloud so I didn't mind.
