have tried a few different types of noise cancelling units and have found these to be one of the best and most comfortable

Philips HN110 Headphones
These are very comfortable for long periods of listening. The sound quality is very good with little distortion at high volumes. My only concern is that the cord is quit thin. This is my second set, they are replacing a 4 year old set that the cat decided to use as a chew toy.
