Thanks to you who keep us operating our businesses
I use very expensive software that can only operate on Windows XP or older systems. Also needs to be a 32bit system as well. It is a life saver that these folks are out there keeping us in business. If I had to upgrade my software so it could operate on newer operating systems I would have to go out of business. Thanks to microsoft, their planned obsolesce is designed to keep only large and well funded businesses in the black. I understand that if something works very well that the only way to continue to make money with your product is to cause that product to be obsolete therefore requiring businesses and people to spend more money on a product they didn't need but are forced to purchase. Back in history for another look
It has all the features I was looking for to access some Legacy Control Systems that I've used for 30 some years. The mouse pad was a little squirrely, but I believe I have it resolved. I will be trying a live connection on Monday April 28 to see if the system upload from the controller will occur. The battery is bad, but I was told that in the onsite description. Laptop with serial port
I am a Ham Radio operator. I needed a laptop with DOS and a serial port to operate some older programs. This Dell fit the need. It is clean, new battery, serial port, running XP. Totally impressed!
Totally impressed! It's hard to beat the price, considering the features. Granted, the graphics aren't good enough to watch movies on, but it is still exactly what I was looking for, and then some. I have 2 electronic keyboards that I use on stage, each costing about $1200, and I recently found out that the software to run them does not support anything beyond Windows 98. (The company has no intention of updating the software, because they no longer sell that model keyboard.) Meanwhile, all of my computers were forcibly updated to Windows 7 or Windows 10. (Thanks, Microsoft.) All of my written keyboard patches that I use during the shows are at risk to be lost, if I can't save them on the computer. If they are lost, the show (and the band) are probably over, because I don't have months of free time to re-write them all. Anyway, you guys saved my bacon. I'm almost tempted to order another one. These would be great for a started computer, or as a backup. I had no idea they would be wireless capable, or that there would be a working DVD player/burner. Excellent XP laptop to run older software!
Exactly what I needed to run the circa-1998 COBOL compiler I am using to create a series of programs with logic designs for people who know a more modern language and would like to learn COBOL to be able to help upgrade/reprogram "legacy" systems on a consulting basis. Every feature works as described.Screen is unblemished and bright. The computer is fast. Comes with Windows XP Pro which is useful for running old programs such as Adobe Flash. Quick start up. Works great Windows XP and Quickbooks

Older laptop with lots of life left in it
It is exactly what I wanted. It has Windows XP so I can use my older software. I find that this older laptop is made a lot better than the newer laptops1 The CD/RW player is 100% better in quality than what the newer laptops have. It has the serial port which I needed, newer laptops don't have that. It also has several usb ports and that is great. True, it does operate on Windows XP which is not supported any longer. That is a shame. Microsoft is here for you today but gone tomorrow. They don't upgrade, they just replace. Not always a good thing. Anyway, I am quite happy with my purchase and highly recommend this laptop if you are looking for an older unit. It still has a lot of life left in it. I have to say in closing, I am quite impressed with Dell. Used but not fully funtional. CD/DVD was faulty.
DVD Optical drive could not read a CD. Ordered another used (tested?) drive on e-bay, and it could see the cd but would not read it after trying for 10 minutes. Purchased and connected an external USB optical drive and it read the same CD perfectly. So, I left it attached.
