Great value, professional sound, practical and affordable
This is not a toy.
The Reface YC has 5 organ engines (Hammond, Vox, Farfisa, Ace Tone, Yamaha YC) with their peculiarities (i.e. turning the perc affects the 1' drawbar sound in the Hammond).
The Leslie simulation is pretty good. The acceleration is noticeable, not too fast, not too slow, but unfortunately, it cannot be adjusted. The drive is decent, although it sounds a bit like on top of the sound, and the Vibrato and Chorus don't differ noticeably, but it is alike the Yamaha YC organs - still, the Leslie on the slow setting makes it sound just right and pleasant.
The reverb is also great. Turning all the drawbars to the maximum with the Y organ plus the reverbs gives a sound similar to a Cathedral organ.
There are two percussion settings with length adjustments.
It is easier to make it sound well than other organs (even some of the Nord stage), and pretty versatile - you can play from Jazz, blues and Rock with great Hammond sounds to Old school like Farfisa and Vox, whilst having some good liturgical and church settings.
Only the Ace tone is hard to use - too much dirty, but I guess there is some vintage flavour on it.
Super portable and easy to carry, but it is sturdy - it is heavier than it appears, but still lightweight.
The controls are quality; the drawbars do a nice click when being adjusted, and the rotary control is solid metal. The other faders and buttons (perc, chorus, drive, reverb).
It can be used with 6 AA batteries (I didnt' do it yet as I play at home and in gigs), increasing the portability, and has built-in speakers that sounds reasonably loud but tend to distort. Still, usable if you are playing casually.
An useful feature that may displease some purists but is super convenient when gigging, is that, when using the Reface with an external keyboard or controller, you can use the sustain pedal and it holds the organ sound as well.
The inconvenient thing using an external keyboard is that the sound gets in the down octave and there's no way to change it - the octave control changes it on the reface's keyborard only. To use with layering a piano ou rhodes you'll have to turn to zero the two first drawbars (16' ).
This board is super convenient to use as a organ module on the go and returns very decent organ sounds with drawbars and realistic controls. Great value.
