Great addition to your smartphone when you want better quality photos & lens options.
I've been researching this product for a while and I finally purchased one. I purchased a zoom lens separate to go with it. (15-200mm) Did some testing without the memory card, and was pleasantly surprised how fast it transferred the images to my phone (iPhone 6 Plus). The new updated app for your phone has many improvements from the original. Once I purchased a memory card for the camera, my options in the app increased by 3x. More manual functions, rapid photo taking, video recording, manual f-stop & shutter speed abilities, RAW formatted photos, etc. I like this product better then the other models which include the lens. Although, depending on the type of lens you add, it does make your phone heavy which makes your smartphone feel more like traditional size camera. But because of the WiFi attaching the camera to the phone, you could set up the camera on a tripod, set the scene and take the shot holding the phone away from the camera. Sony QX-1 with Vario-Tessar 16-70mm f/4 ZA OSS connected with Motorola Z force
5 star. why? Good quality, small and compact camera. BUT the connectivity with the smartphone is horrible! I have Motorola Z force, and it took for me about 5hours to set it up with the app. Now it works! and work better then I have expected! (No crushes at all!!!) The only issue that I have to figure it out, it is the flash. Underrated and undervalued camera
I find this camera to be the most underrated camera. To have control of a camera with your cellphone is such a great idea. I think the only downside was for Sony to market it as an attachment camera for a cellphone. This is a great concept, but no one wants to lug around a camera for their cellphone when their phone can already take great photos. Not professional, but that's the point of the cellphone. This camera is great for anyone except the typical cellphone camera user. Whether for UAV's, or 3D imaging, its an awesome alternative to a regular sized mirror-less camera. Using full-sized or APS-C E-mount lens, this gives this camera a huge selection of lens and brands. The last thing is that this camera has the option to be apart of a 5 camera network. Also, Sony is updating to a better software that works with this camera. Excellent if you already have E mount lenses
This is a great second camera if you’re already invested in the Sony DSLR ecosystem. It’s a fully functional camera, aside from the lack of a viewfinder, which is why it requires a smartphone. A birder's dream.
