The Perfect GPU for a MacPro 5,1 with Metal Capability
This GPU seems to be the the most recommended one for a MacPro 5,1 if you want to extend the usable life of this amazing computer. It is metal supported. It does a great job displaying video. Doesn't seem to be choppy at all and runs very quietly. Can't hear the fans although I can see they are spinning. Has more than ample connectivity. 8GB GPU vs 2GB GPU: You Do The Math
I bought an 8GB RX 580 GPU so I could play certain games. I haven't bought them yet. It replaced a 2GB card. Since installing it, I've noticed a real difference in the system's general performance. I didn't think the non-gaming things I do were that much graphics oriented, but the CPU and GPU have apparently been doing their separate things better. Powerful performance at a great price
Bought to upgrade a MacPro 5.1 running Mojave and Pro Tools Ultimate... The mac is now dead quiet and runs cool to the touch even after days of continuous up-time. Best is that iin app waveform rendering speed is lightening fast and CPU load is all but negated. Nice card: zero regrets.

Works well in 2010 MacPro 5,1
I bought this to update the gpu in my old MacPro 5,1 (2010). This card won’t have a boot screen for a Mac, which is to be expected, but it does boot and run well in that older machine. Great budget card foir 1080p gaming

Worthy investment.
Bought this for a old x58 Hackintosh system I build in 2011. This card plus a CPU upgrade has made the old computer usable. The graphics card is of great value given its price, and provides surprisingly good performance on the macOS platform. The card is capable of accelerating a large variety of programs.
