Punchy! Space-saving! A no-frills affair. There's almost no edge around the keys. And it's great.
I got a new keyboard!
-- it is a no-frills keyboard, packs little more than the bare essentials, is evidently very minimal in terms of design philosophy, design wise the keyboard is very compact, there is no accompanying software, it has no programmable keys nor dedicated macro keys, .. but it's a $100 msrp keyboard. What gives? Why is there simply no denying that this is an excellent keyboard for the money?
It's funny for a keyboard to come in a premium package: a box made from high quality glossy cardboard, painted black and with red accents everywhere. The back and the sides of the box include a wealth of details about .. the HyperX Alloy FPS mechanical gaming keyboard!
For instance, you can read about the minimalistic design of the keyboard, its “solid-steel frame for long-lasting durability and stability”, its detachable USB cable. It weighs in at a respectable 2.3 pounds, giving you a solid feel for the keyboard at all times and preventing any unwanted desk movement. It gets a lot of that weight from the solid-steel frame and the metal alloy top plate. In addition, the keyboard also has a USB slot for charging your phone (or connecting another USB device). The keycaps are of solid make, too. Each and every key found on the HyperX Alloy FPS keyboard is backlit by a red LED. They are also customizable. And according to Kingston, the Cherry MX Brown switches used in this thing, this keyboard I mean, are guaranteed for 50 million keystrokes each. The company also says that the gold contacts inside the switches will prevent dust and dirt from piling up. And, the switches sit on a solid-steel frame made from a metal alloy. I get it now, -- the keyboard bears the name of Alloy. Always, the first thing that draws my attention is its very thin solid-steel frame .. the metal part feels very solid and twisting the keyboard is a very hard thing to do..
This is a keyboard that does its job as rigorously as a Spartan soldier from the ancient Greece.
And I guess I missed it, when Kingston - the mother company - decided it was time for HyperX to become a brand known worldwide for gaming accessories too. Because when I hear about HyperX, I instantly think about memory modules, solid state drives or USB flash drives..
