Begotten
***SPOILERWARNUNG*** Der Mann im Schaukelstuhl ist Gott und weidet sich selber aus, wodurch er Mutter Erde erschafft. Diese schwängert sich im Alleingang und gebärt ein Kind, in Form eines Erwachsenen Mannes, welcher keinen einzelnen Menschen darstellt, sondern die gesamte Menschheit verkörpert. Die Gewaltdarstellungen an beiden Personen sind eine Metapher, die Niedergang und Zerstörung der Menschheit und unserer Erde darstellt, bis zum Tod. Nach deren ableben, begeben sich die 2 Personen in den Wald, zu Gottes Hütte, wodurch sich der Kreis wieder schließt. Es wird also die Entstehung der Erde und Menschheit durch einen Gott dargestellt. Das ganze ist extrem verstörend und experimentell. Die Optik, die Risse, Sprünge, Löcher, Verwackelungen des Bildes oder unscharfe Elemente enthält, stellt für den Betrachter schon eine Herausforderung dar. Dennoch sind die einzelnen Takes sehr lange, was dem gezeigten etwas Ruhe zurückbringt. Der Film verzichtet zusätzlich auf Dialoge und Musik. Hörbar sind lediglich Geräusche der Natur, Kratzer oder Störgeräusche, was nicht zum Verständnis beiträgt, sondern einen atmosphärischen Sog erzielen soll. Ich persönlich kann sagen, dass ich sehr viel verstehen und Interpretieren konnte und mir der Film dadurch sehr gefallen hat. Mein Tipp an euch: Zappt den Film im Vorfeld auf YouTube durch, damit Ihr wisst, ob Ihr mit der Bildsprache etwas anfangen könnt. Beide Teile sind kostenfrei und völlig legal auf YouTube zu sehen, dennoch sehr speziell und auf keinen Fall etwas für's große Publikum oder gar jedermann zugänglich. Wer sich drauf einlässt, den erwartet ein genialer aber auch komplett Surrealer Kranker Streifen, der auch nach 27 Jahren nichts von seiner Faszination für mich verloren hat.

Oop surreal and extreme
Begotten is an often sought aftwr out of pri t title that is a nice blend of surreal and extreme cinema. It is a silent art film geared towards arthouse cinema lovers the world over. Highly praised, this film certainly lives up to the hype behind it. For the true lover of film, this is a must for any collector. The movie on dema d dvd-r is a 1:1 copy of the original factory pressed disc and includes the trailer and writer/directors filmography. The print looks as pristine as this movie ever will in this format. Highly recommended.

Reminded me of Super 8 Stag Films from the 30's,40's & 50's as well as Certain Silent Films !!!
The Director shot this way on purpose !!! I didn't think it was anything special. Like Public Access Theatre Performance mixed with German Expressionistic Silent Films. With obscure shots you would see in Black and White Super 8 Stag Films of the 1920's, 30's , 40's & 50's. I've seen better production values from the Black and White Doctor Who Serials of the 1960's. It is like a Opera shot with the microphone muted and the camera lens is set at infinity. Sorry , but I'm disappointed again in those list of the most shocking films ever made. I had high hopes for Begotten.

Weird Art
This is a very strange and visually engulfing film. A silent art film that is unlike anything else you will see. Not for the faint of heart as it contains some disturbing footage. I personally think that this is one the the coolest art films I've ever seen...for fans of horror and the surreal.

My search is over!
I've been after this movie (at a reasonable price) for several years, and in all honesty thought for this price it would surely be a bootleg, but it's the sealed official release with booklet and everything, and plays on my UK (Pal) DVD/Blue Ray player. The film itself is a disturbing art house surrealist horror film, and one of my favourite movies ever made, unlike anything else I've seen, so glad to finally have it in a physical copy
