  • Lords of Thunder for the Turbo Duo

Lords of Thunder proves to be one of the finer moments for the lifespan of the Turbo Duo console, and one of the last breaths of life as well being made in mid 1993, as one of the final games this console would ever see. With great emphasis on incredible music that has a "heavy metal" feeling all the way though, which matches the awesome feeling of the action on screen, this game sure does deliver. Lords really made great use of the color palette of the Duo, and also of the parallax scrolling as well, which helps bring the game to life. The intro screens, the armor/weapon select screen, and the stages all seem to be made with perfection in mind, and you can tell that other than Sapphire, Hudson Soft went out of their way to make this game shine on the Turbo Duo, as this game was the ONE TO GET back in 1993 when it came out. The stages are all long and enjoyable, with a lot of strategy involved, as your character is not a ship in this game, but, instead is a person that shoots from far away like a spaceship, but when you are up close and personal with an enemy, you whip out your sword to deal the damage. So, this game uses this kind of strategic advantage to deal the damage to an enemy which allows the player to decide how to deal the attacks on each boss. There is a big boss to each stage in the game which take up considerable amounts of the screen, and they are all well animated for their time. There are seven stages to fight though, and the final boss of the game can be a very difficult task to defeat unless fully powered up with a full stock of armor, extra lives, and weapons at your disposal. There is little else to say about this game, other than if you own a Turbo Duo, and you want to see what some of the best games are available for the system, you owe it to yourself to get this game! Even though this game is also available for the Sega CD, the Turbo Duo version is much more colorful, and is just more fun to play though, so it is the better deal. Now go, and bow to the Lords! The Lords of Thunder!
