The Yamaha APX500 right-handed six-string acoustic/electric guitar with a NatoSpruce top is a model from the APX series of instruments. A thinline cutaway model, the affordability of this guitar in no way diminishes its stellar tone and acoustics that translate well through an amp. The spruce top and Nato back and sides are what account for the crisp sound that acoustic players crave in an electric model. The saddle-mounted piezo pickup can be credited for great tone that resonates from neck to bridge and doesn't drop out on the low or high ends. Keeping the guitar in tune and sounding its best is easily accomplished via an onboard 3-band EQ and tuner that make it easy to accomplish adjustments on the fly.Product Identifiers

Yahaha APX-500 Acoustic Electric Guitar
Nice guitar for the money. Plays well, good action, not a lot of depth of sound unplugged, but has good electronics (pre-amp) in it that sounds great through a Crate 50W Acoustic Amp, or my 80W Shenandoah Amp. Worth the money that I paid for it without the case. It's an attractive guitar, light weight and plays more like a 3/4 size guitar though it has a full scale neck. Wish I'd tried one sooner
I began playing guitar 40 years ago and have owned several since then from $100 beginner models (UniVox & Austin) to pro gear (Guild Starfire 12 & Gibson ES-335 Studio) and have played some very nice acoustics owned by friends. (Martin) so, I realized that there was a sweet spot of playability and pitch perfect intonation that could be obtained - at a high price. Even bought used and slightly out of date, the Yamaha APX-500 is the most enjoyable and satisfying combination of those factors which I've owned. I particularly like playing it because it makes me sound like a better guitarist. Its fun to just mess around and try new things that somehow end up sounding "right" spontaneously. Yamaha may not have the cachet of other brand names, but the quality of workmanship, playability and voicing of this instrument is exceptional for the price. Since it's smaller and lighter in weight it's also comfortable to hold and play. Nice Instrument overall
The craftsmanship is excellent, bracing and tuning of the top is very good, the oval sound hole adds body to the lower mid and bass tones. Overall very good sounding both acoustically and amplified. Now for the bad. I did a lot of research before buying this. Like all chinese guitars under $300.00 it comes to you in bad need of a setup which will cost you $80 to $100 to have done by a pro. With the truss rod adjusted properly, the frets leveled, crowned and polished, It becomes a whole other instrument with a buttery smooth playability that is so like playing an electric. If you usually play a well set up electric instrument you'll be right at home here after this one is properly set up. Don't buy this for a beginner unless you are willing to do the setup or pay a competent guitar tech to set it up. Right out of the box, considering the height of the strings above the fretboard, this guitar would discourage even the most eager beginner. I checked three examples of the apx500iii and all three came this way. Some dealers might be inticed to set it up for you but don't count on it, it is after all, the most popular and best selling guitar in its price class and is rarely discounted from the $299. Nice and good sounding guitar
Rather compact but easy to play and with a crips nice sound. Recommended for beginners, intermediate and even advanced players.
