The Digidesign Mbox 2 Pro Digital Recording Interface packs an unbelievable amount of functionality into a small unit that is USB-powered and fully MIDI compatible. There are a number of input and output options on the Mbox 2, including two analog inputs and two analog outputs in addition to two separate channels of digital input and output. The interface also provides MIDI I/O, and the virtual instruments that come factory installed will enhance recording and unlock your creativity. Creating beats is simple with the interface's Boom drum machine and sequencer. Condenser microphones, the standard for quality recording, can be used with no problems thanks to the Mbox 2’s 48V phantom power. Not pro
Everyone lists the usb mbox on ebay as the pro. The pro version is firewire. How are there so many stupid people that dont even know what interface they are using/ selling? Hi Freq Noise Issue
This is a great way to get into Pro Tools without spending a lot of $$. There is an issue I have seen a lot on the internet which I also discovered - a high frequency noise when the box is activated. It comes out the audio out ports and is a definite no-no on your audio tracks. I saw a video on UTube advocating soldering a ground wire to the circuit board. I recommend that you do not do this. There is a reason why audio circuits are isolated from ground - it improves the signal to noise ratio. If you ground the audio circuit you will decrease your audio performance. The real issue with the mbox is a ground loop issue. I had the problem initially on this box because my computer which powered the box was connected directly to the wall circuit while my audio was going through an amp which was powered by a UPS. My midi ports were also powered by the UPS. This creates a ground loop and results in the high freq. noise. Once I put the wall circuit computer and monitor and the amp on the UPS too the noise went away. This issue can be fixed by taking a few precautions.
