Sony DCR-TRV280
These cameras are no longer manufactured. They shoot in standard definition. If you can get one in good working condition for under $200 go for it. For best quality capture to your computer for editing you need a firewire(IEEE1394) connection. New computers no longer come with firewire, thanks to USB 3.0, so you may need to buy a good working older PC or laptop (such as the HP Elitebook 8540W) and a external hard drive to save the videos. Don't wait to long to transfer those old 8mm videos because time will deteriorate them and the equipment to recover them is passing away. NOTE: This camera will only play back the 1hour Digital8 tapes - NOT older regular 8mm 2hour tapes. Good throwback sony 8mm
This camcorder is great. In terms of the 8mm camcorder era, it really has all of the features you need. I almost prefer it over my brand new sony. Awesome product!!

Only use it for playback

Digital 8 playback & record only.

Great little camcorder that holds up!!
I love this camcorder! For SD, the image quality is surprisingly good while also retro. It also makes a good webcam! If you get the right adapters for DV transfer, it can still be used with some newer laptops via software like Premiere (2023) to get the best quality footage. Works as advertised
This product was exactly what I expected it to be as I had one previously and bought this as a replacement so I could view the tapes I recorded on the original camera.
