HP 42S

I am pleased that these low cost guides remain available. I have purchased several. I am participating in the SwissMicros DM42 calculator beta program and have found the guides useful memory aids. I have PDF copies of the original HP 42S manuals, which are excellent, but tuck the guide into the calculator pouch to ensure some help is always available. For what it's worth, the new SwissMicros version of the calculator is simply outstanding. It had Thomas Okken's Free42 emulator code base, USB connectivity for upload/download, metal casing back, crystal clear Sharp 400x240 pixel display, long battery life, high quality fit and finish, etc. It is a better calculator than the already great 42S was. I guess that it should be out of beta and available for order sometime soon. The 42S has a new lease of life. I have a number of HP calculators, but this was and is again simply the best engineering calculator.Vollständige Rezension lesen

The second to last Scientific Programmable RPN calculator HP made.

"This calculator is often regarded as the best ever made in terms of quality, key stroke feel, ease of programming, and daily usability for engineers. Many scientists and engineers use this calculator today, 25 years after its introduction."
Wikipedia on the HP 42s

Around the turn of the century, HP terminated its' calculator development team and decided to reduce the quality of its' calculators. Since then, Kinpo Electronics of China has been making scientific programmable calculators and HP has been putting their name on it. Kinpo made the HP 33s and the current HP 35s calculators. If you'll read the reviews on eBay, Amazon and HP's own public reviews you'll notice that Kinpo's calculators aren't as good as the one's HP used to make. HP must have read them too and obviously doesn't care any more.
In my opinion, the best scientific programmable calculators that HP ever made are the HP 67, HP 15c, HP 32sii and the HP 42s (although I'm very fond of the HP 29c and HP 34c) The best of the bunch I'd have to say is the HP 42s. Personally, I'd like to see an HP 15cii and an HP 42sii. I've asked HP's new President & CEO Dion Weisler to do just that, but I'm not holding my breath. I don't expect HP to ever make a quality calculator again. HP no longer deserves to be associated with quality.
Judging by the high prices HP calculators prior to 2001 fetch on eBay, I'd say many others feel the same about HP now. That's a real same. We've told HP what we want and that we're willing to pay for it. Yet, they still won't do it!

One of the most durable and complete calculators made.

The HP reverse logic calculator is the easiest to use and the HP 42S is the best and most durable made. The calculator is different than the standard calculator in that you enter the number, then tell it what you want to do with it. This means that you can put a number in, then figure what the next step is. Also if you enter a wrong number, you can back up and correct it without losing your calculation. The keyboard has all the needed functions for geometry, and complex functions. The X=Y, and 1/x are very handy. Lots of storage registers. You will need the book to figure out all the function capabilities. Press "exit" to turn on, press "off" then "exit" to turn off.Vollständige Rezension lesen

Excellent Mini-User Guide!

I have been a long-time convert to H-P calculators since 1975 when I purchased my first, a HP-75, which I still have. I purchased my HP42S many years ago, and always felt the need for a well made 'aide-memoire' much like the ones I have for my other H-P calculators.

I had almost given up ever finding the original version for the HP42S that was produced by HP way back in 1988, but, here it is! It is the original, even down to the original HP part number and envelope in which it was supplied.

It is printed on good quality card in a 10-page book format that neatly and easily fits in the HP42S case. It covers all the essential aspects of using this beautiful little programmable calculator in an easy to use format.

OK, you really need to have read the User Manual first, but as a Quick Reference Guide it excels. Suffice to say that I am delighted, it is an essential HP42S accessory, get yours whilst there are still stocks left.

The best scientific handheld programable calculator ever built

It is in pretty good shape , and it functions as it should . The only complaint I would give is that part of the face plate is loose which you can see in my photo . This is just a cosmetic issue . I don't care that much about this issue . It is much more important to me that it functions as it should . Vollständige Rezension lesen

Great RPN calculator

While they are very rare, as they are not manufactured anymore, it was expensive to purchase but held its condition very well
